2021-2022 School Year. SALARY: Per Contract. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate
degree. Appropriate State of Connecticut certification, license or other
legal credential required. Successful experience as a classroom teacher
desirable.
JOB GOAL:
The School Library/Media Specialist is to be aware of and support the
educational goals of the school system. Knowledge of teachers’ goals
and classroom activities provides information for long-range planning
and program proposals meeting schools’ needs. To maintain a current
knowledge of literature for children and young adults.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide students with media center
program orientation, including physical layout, procedures for use and
reference skills. Conduct classes in reference skills for individual
classes throughout the school year in response to collaboration with
classroom teachers. Evaluate, select and assist students with individual
research materials stressing the use of both print and non-print
materials appropriate to the educational objective. Selects and locates
print and non-print resources for teachers and students upon request.
Facilitates the use of computer applications for research and
production. Work with teachers to connect classroom curriculum with
information and technology literacy. Recommends resources for
integration with instructional units. Initiate the obtaining of
materials from other sources. Promotes reading through motivation and
reading guidance. Manages the electronic circulation system and online
catalog. Read professional journals, evaluate, select and consult with
faculty regarding purchases. Supervises student and/or parent
volunteers. Supports the integration of new technology within the
classroom. Articulates intellectual freedom issues and manages
challenges to materials according to the school district guidelines.
Assume such other functions as may be determined.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten months, per EHEA contract.
