Library/Media Specialist - Weston Intermediate School, Weston Public Schools, CT. Anticipated Vacancy 2021-2022. Beginning: Aug 08, 2021. 1.00 FTE. Job Goal:
To provide teachers and students with a media center environment
containing a wide variety and range of materials that will challenge
intellectual growth and aid all students in acquiring the skills needed
to take full advantage of media center resources.
Performance Responsibilities:
Operates and supervises the library/media center. Evaluates, selects,
and requisitions new media center materials. Assists teachers in the
selection of books and other instructional materials and makes media
center materials available to supplement the instructional program.
Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials.
Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media
center materials and instructs teachers and students on use of the
system. Works cooperatively with teachers in planning assignments which
support the media center skills and the school’s curriculum. Maintains
an environment conducive to good learning. Assists students in
developing habits of independent reference work and develop skills in
the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
Presents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular
topic in cooperation with the classroom teacher. Works cooperatively
with teachers in planning interdisciplinary units. Works cooperatively
with the Curriculum Instructional Leader in providing reading guidance
to all students including those who have special reading difficulties or
unusual intellectual interests. Arranges frequently changing
book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center’s
patrons. Prepares and administers the media center budget. Supervises
media center aides in the performance of their duties. Takes out of
circulation dated materials which have become obsolete. Supervises the
clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the media
center. Maintains professional competence through a variety of
activities including inservice education activities provided by the
district and self-selected professional growth activities. Performs such
other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities of a certified
professional as the Principal may assign from time to time. Provides
Digital Citizenship instruction for students as required. Communicates
safe technology use expectations to families and students. Provides
instruction in the area of technology, utilizing the Maker Space to
promote creativity and collaboration. Collaborates with district Media
Specialists. Plans and provides scaffolded foundational technology
skills instruction as scheduled by the building administrators. Plans
and provides professional development for the staff in the area of
educational technology on designated days and as needed by the staff
throughout the year. Manages the distribution of student technology in a
1:1 environment.
Qualifications: Holds or is qualified
for Connecticut State Certificate as a school Library/Media Specialist.
Possesses a degree from an accredited college or university. Such
alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may
find appropriate and acceptable.
