start date: August 1, 2020. Essex Library Association seeks an
energetic and engaging professional to serve as our next Librarian for
Children’s & Teen Services.
The Essex Library has been a
vital community institution since 1889. Our staff delivers comprehensive
services and high quality programming for all age groups. The library
serves a close knit and supportive community of more than 6,600
residents, hosting more than 53,000 visits a year. We maintain a
physical collection of more than 37,000 items in a welcoming and vibrant
9,550 square foot facility which houses dedicated children’s and teen
spaces. Essex Library consistently outperforms the annual state average
for children’s program attendance. The library is a member of the LION
consortium.
The Librarian for Children’s & Teen Services
will be responsible for curating and maintaining a collection of more
than 13,000 books for children, young adults, parents and educators.
S/he will also provide individual and group training for patrons and
staff, coordinate programs and services with area schools, and develop
and implement high quality programming for children and teens. The
librarian will be expected to provide both virtual and (eventually)
in-person library services for children and teens. S/he will also
coordinate social media, marketing and other projects for the library as
needed.
We are seeking a friendly, creative, inclusive,
enthusiastic, and organized librarian who holds a Master's Degree in
Library Science from an accredited college or university and has prior
experience working successfully with children and teens. Supervisory
experience is not required, but will be considered. The successful
applicant will be required to pass comprehensive background and
reference checks.
This exempt position comes with budgeting support
for professional development and service to the profession, plus

attract top candidates. We can offer a work schedule of 30 to 40 hours
per week, with a competitive CLA minimum salary adjusted accordingly.
Some alternate week Saturday and evening hours are anticipated.
