Interim State Librarian - Connecticut State Library. The Connecticut State Library Board is seeking a well-qualified candidate for the position of Interim State Librarian. This person will manage the State Library under the direction of the State Library Board while the Board conducts a search for and until it appoints a new State Librarian. The Interim State Librarian will be appointed by the Board and will not be considered for the permanent position of State Librarian. This will be a contracted position, and the individual selected will serve at the pleasure of the Board. The position is not considered State employment and does not carry any State employee benefits. It is anticipated that the appointment will last no longer than six months, except by mutual consent of the Interim State Librarian and the State Library Board.
     The scope of operations and services of the CT State Library includes: Legal and Legislative Reference; Federal and State Government Information; History and Genealogy; Discovery Services; Collection Management; the Division of Library Development; the Office of the Public Records Administrator; the State Archives; the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped; the Museum of Connecticut History and the library’s Fiscal Services unit.
     Purpose of the Interim State Librarian Position: The Interim State Librarian will report to and work in partnership with the State Library Board in furthering the mission, goals, and objectives of the State Library during the search for a permanent State Librarian.
     The Interim State Librarian will: serve as staff liaison to the State Library Board, providing support for activities of the Board and, at the Board’s request, the Search Committee seeking a permanent State Librarian, report regularly to the State Library Board Chair and Vice Chair and to the full Board at its Regular Meetings, keeping the Board fully informed of the condition of the organization and important factors influencing it, coordinate State Library Board meetings, work with the Board Chair to set and communicate agendas, and prepare documents for the Board as requested, direct the State Library on a day-to-day basis, coordinating with Division Heads and Specialists, maintain a knowledgeable, informed, and committed staff, working collaboratively with them to solve problems that may arise during the interim period, represent the State Library at State, regional, and national legislative and professional meetings as directed by the Board, ensure that the State Library follows all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations, change any existing services or policies, institute new programs or services, and hire new staff only with the expressed approval of or direction from the State Library Board, upon selection of a permanent State Librarian, work with the State Librarian Emeritus and the State Library Board to organize orientation and a smooth transition to the new administration
     Qualifications: Demonstrated experience managing a complex organization within a government or higher educational setting. Library management experience is preferred.
     Hours of Work and Compensation: The Interim State Librarian will work a minimum of four days per week (up to 32 hours) as directed by the Board, at an hourly rate of $50.00.
