Lower School Librarian (Grades K-4) - New
Canaan Country School is a co-ed, independent day school for students
in Pre-K (ages 3 & 4) through Grade 9 living in Fairfield and
Westchester Counties. Located in New Canaan, CT, and serving 570
students, our mission is to guide students to reach their intellectual,
creative, moral, and physical potential. Our talented and devoted
faculty engages our students in developmentally appropriate ways,
delivering a challenging curriculum that builds intellectual skills and
fosters creative and critical thinking. We lead by example and challenge
students to fulfill their potential, find their path, and follow their
passions whether in the classroom, on the playing fields, on the stage,
or serving the community.
The Lower School at New Canaan
Country School serves grades 1-4. The Lower School library, located in
the Lower School building, serves students from Kindergarten through
Grade 4. The school is now searching for a Lower School Librarian to
join its faculty.
Requirements: The ability to teach Lower
School library classes, including leading read alouds, supporting
student book selection, teaching research skills, and offering
information literacy instruction. The ability to meaningfully connect
with students in Kindergarten through Grade 4. An understanding of the
scope and sequence of a Kindergarten through Grade 4 library and
information literacy curriculum. The ability to oversee the library
collection including circulation, collection development, inventory, and
evaluation. Master of Library Sciences (MLS).
Responsibilities:
Create a joyful, vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming library space that
celebrates learning, reading, inquiry and collaboration. Work
collaboratively with classroom teachers to support student learning and
curriculum in research and literacy, employing 21st century skills
incorporating the use of literacy, information literacy and technology.
Play an active role in special literacy events including author visits.
Ensure the library collection represents a diverse and multicultural
range of authors and content. Promote literacy and reading for pleasure
among students; maintain current knowledge of appropriate book
recommendations for K-4 students. Maintain and update other media and
library subscriptions within the established budget and manage their
circulation. Engage in faculty meetings and professional development
programs at department, team, division and whole school levels.
