Head of Youth Services - Plainville Public Library seeks an
experienced powerhouse librarian to lead our Youth Services department,
which encompasses service to children, young adults and their
families/caregivers. We need someone with the creativity, vision and
energy for planning, scheduling, executing and overseeing the whole
enchilada, plus the fortitude and passion to constantly improve upon
success & evolve our services. Kindness & grace are the guiding
principles at our Library; from this we seek someone with the ability to
nurture & develop Youth Services staff; keen sensitivity to diverse
cultural issues, identities and practices; commitment to providing a
consistently vibrant, comfortable and welcoming space for all; and the
warmth, professionalism, and diplomacy to confer & collaborate
effectively with colleagues, parents/caregivers, teachers/school
administrators, and representatives from various civic & community
organizations. Should genuinely enjoy young people and having fun; have
extensive knowledge of children’s & YA literature; ability to
navigate technology and social media, plus an awareness of current and
emerging technology uses as they pertain to children & YAs.
Qualifications required are a
master’s degree in library and information studies (MLS/MLIS) from an
ALA-accredited institution, plus a minimum of three (3) years of
progressively responsible experience in professional library work, and
at least one (1) in a supervisory capacity. Working knowledge of Sierra
ILS, Cassie and Encore is helpful. Salary is commensurate with
experience; exceeds ALA-recommended minimum salary guidelines. This is
