Electronic Resources Librarian - Hartford Public Library. Summary: The Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for supporting the management of the daily operations and activities of the library’s technical service department to include serving as a liaison between the Hartford Public Library and the Library’s e-content and collection-development vendors. The Electronic Resources Librarian will maintain existing vendor partnerships, as well as, manage the execution of library-related contracts and negotiating licenses and subscription terms for collections of electronic resources. The position will Support the Technical Services Manager with acquisitions, cataloging, circulation reports, processing library materials and provides customer service.

     Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assessment, implementation, training (external customers and internal staff) and support of electronic databases and e-content services and collections. Provides recommendations and participates in improvement initiatives. Participates in managing contract compliance between vendors and library for e-content systems, resources and services. Participates in the negotiation of vendor contracts including: Terms and Conditions, Service Level Agreements and payment terms. Manages and provides input on database and electronic resource budget. Coordinates with HPL IT and vendors to ensure highest standards of public accessibility and ease of use.
  • Performs technical duties related to the acquisition, cataloging and processing of library materials including serials control, OCLC record updating, copy cataloging, acquisitions, circulation, editing and updating records, catalog maintenance, receiving items and processing invoices/order records, processing new materials, EDI.
  • Performs reference services. Assists customers with requests for information or materials. Performs reader’s advisory, referral services, and instructional support for using library collections and equipment. Assists with public service including circulation and customer support. Including, but not limited to room reservations, borrower services, shelving, circulation, renewals, creation and editing of customer records, municipal ID, and providing technical training/assistance to customers as needed.
  • Provides RFID and general ILS support assistance with collection development including selection of material and/or creating carts and facilitating ordering across the system. Oversees the implementation and use of Collection HQ, including generating reports and managing report issues and assisting with overall collection assessments. Assisting staff in use of and instruction in Collection HQ and collection management. Performs other duties as assigned.
     Required: Master's in Library Science or Master's in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution required. Minimum of 1 years of Integrated Library Management system experience required. Must possess excellent customer service and communication skills. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships customers, staff, vendors and city agencies. Strong organizational, project management and computer skills. Schedule will include evening and weekends hours as needed.
     Preferred: Experience with Axis360, iPage. B&T Workflows, Collection HQ and EDI preferred. Experience with Sirsi/Dynix Symphony and BLUEcloud preferred. Knowledge of AACR2 and RDA Marc Cataloging Standards.
