The branch serves a diverse population, including a substantial Spanish speaking community. Branch Managers supervise all aspects of daily branch operations. Operations include the facility, collection, equipment, budget, staff, programs, and related services. The Manager is responsible for identifying and responding to the needs of the community. This involves interaction with community representatives, neighborhood associations, professional and business organizations, schools and social agencies serving the community. As supervisor the Branch Manager serves as coach, mentor and mediator with staff. Work is performed with latitude for professional judgment under the general supervision of the Head of Branch Services and is reviewed through conferences and observation of results. Minimum Requirements: A Master’s degree in Library Science and at least three to five years experience in professional library work, including at least six months of supervisory experience; and all knowledge, skills and abilities as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of library science; Considerable knowledge of the objectives of library service to the community; Ability to apply library science and management techniques to operating and supervising problems; Ability to plan and supervise operations of a library branch.This position is included in a collective bargaining agreement with Local 3144, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. As a condition of continued employment, a person appointed to a Local 3144 bargaining unit position will be required to obtain union membership at the completion of 90 working days. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of: (1) a background check, (2) a physical examination, including drug screening, and (3) a 90-day probationary period.
