Multiple Youth Services positions - New Haven Free Public Library:

  • Youth Services Librarian (2 positions) - This is part-time (19 hours per week) professional work at the entry level, involving the use of all library techniques and materials in positions for youth services to include collection development and analysis, programmatic efforts and community outreach initiatives. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Services Administrator (youth), and is reviewed through frequent conferences and observation of performance. Schedule will include evenings and Saturdays, at the Main Library or at a branch. $19.14 per hour. Requirements: A Master's Degree in Library Science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association, or its foreign equivalent and other knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science, procedures and techniques; Knowledge of sources and procedures used in reference and bibliographic research, and of software programs designed for libraries. Must be computer literate through formal training in the searching of on-line bibliographic databases.

This position will specifically focus on ReadMobile services and community outreach. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Services Administrator (youth), and is reviewed through frequent conferences and observation of performance. Schedule will include evenings and Saturdays at the Main Library or at a branch. $19.14 per hour.   • Youth Services Librarian (1 position. LSTA grant funded only for one year from date of hire) - This is part-time (19 hours per week) professional work at the entry level, involving the use of all library techniques and materials in positions for youth services. This position will specifically focus on the coordination and implantation of Project Promise. Project Promise is the public libraries compliment to the city-wide initiative of New Haven Promise. Work will include will supervise 50 local students over the course of the year. These students will be volunteering at NHFPL in order to fulfill their 40 hour community service requirement for the New Haven Promise. Work includes the supervision of 50 local students over the course of the year who will be volunteering at NHFPL in order to fulfill their 40 hour community service requirement for the New Haven Promise. Efforts also include working with branch managers to hold college prep workshops at each location. These workshops will provide in-depth training for high school students and their parents to utilize the high quality online databases provide by the NHFPL: ePrep, Learn-A-Test, and Career Cruising. Schedule will include evenings and Saturdays at the Main Library or at a branch. $19.14 per hour.
