Legislative Aide - Connecticut State Library Bill Room. Job Description: As an employee of the principal Law Library in the State of CT, the individual will learn the legislative process by working with highly skilled government professionals. The Bill Room is part of the Law & Legislative Reference Department at the Connecticut State Library, which is located in the State Supreme Court Building across the street from the State Capitol. Staff provide legal and legislative reference services to members of the Bench, the Bar, State Agencies, students and faculty as well as the general public. Duties include visiting legislative offices on a daily basis to acquire timely legislative documents. Information from these documents is used in conjunction with data from "CGALites" (the Connecticut General Assembly's intranet) to track bills through the legislative process. Exposure to the legislative process can be arranged for the Legislative Aide by scheduling visits to witness public hearings associated with particular legislation that is being considered. The Legislative Aide will organize and file legislative documents and maintain a permanent archive of legislative documents generated by the 2010 legislative session. Assists with archiving previous session bill file material, works on special projects and performs other related duties as needed. Position coincides with the 2011 regular Legislative session (beginning on January 5 and ending June 8, 2011). Pay rate is currently $9.90/hr subject to a slight increase. Hours are somewhat flexible to accommodate class/other life commitments. Position is funded up to 40 hours per week.
