Children’s Library Specialist/Librarian - The West Hartford Public Library seeks an enthusiastic part-time Children’s Library Specialist/Librarian to develop and present exceptional programming for children ages birth through fifth grade. The candidate will plan and conduct storytime programs, may visit schools, participate in a Summer Reading Skit, offer Book Clubs and crafts programs for school-age children. We are looking for someone with an extensive knowledge of children’s literature, a background in successful programming in a library or educational setting, an understanding of child development, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment. The successful candidate will work with a dedicated Children’s Services team in a busy library. She/he will possess creativity, energy, flexibility, and a good sense of humor; will provide exceptional public service, have solid organizational skills, and a positive attitude. The candidate must be able to communicate, and enjoy working with children from birth through fifth grade, as well as their parents. Required Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in education, library science or related field; experience in a library or educational setting. Preferred: Masters in Library Science. This is a year-round position of 9-12 hours per week during the mornings and afternoons. Minimum hourly salary $23.41.
