Project Manager - Conservation ConneCTion / CT State Library

Project Manager - A project manager to be based out of the Connecticut State Library is sought to manage the Conservation ConneCTion: a statewide conservation planning initiative project funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. This is a part-time contracted position, ranging from 15 to 25 hours per week, with modest travel required within Connecticut. The start date is immediate, and the position will continue through September 30, 2009. Compensation will depend upon experience and level of involvement, with a maximum compensation of $40,000 over 16 months. Benefits are not included. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and facilitate grant activities. Work with and support the statewide planning team. Collect and compile previous conservation surveys. Survey the Conservation needs of collecting institutions. Write (with the assistance of the planning team) a White Paper on the state of conservation in Connecticut. Identify staff training and education needs. Identify conservation expertise within the state and region. Identify institutions that have done emergency planning. Identify significant items and collections in need of conservation and digitization. Develop a mentoring plan. Plan a symposium on conserving collections in Connecticut. Qualifications: 3+ years experience in museum, library, or archives with an emphasis on conservation/preservation. Demonstrated project management skills. Knowledge and familiarity with key issues impacting conservation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience leading and facilitating training or professional development programs.
