Children's Librarian - Oliver Wolcott Library, Litchfield

Children's Librarian - The Oliver Wolcott Library in Litchfield seeks a dynamic, creative and resourceful Children's Librarian with excellent communication skills and a passion for working with children and families. The Children's Librarian is responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of children's services including programs, services, and materials for children birth to 14 as well as some responsibilities for older teens. The Library has strong community support and an excellent staff. Responsibilities include (in brief): Develop, plan and implement all aspects of children's services from birth to 12; plan and conduct comprehensive programming for toddlers, preschools and school-age children such as story hours, book talks, craft programs, storytelling events, book discussion groups, and annual summer reading program; plan and implement materials, programs and services that support emergent literacy; collection development; management of program funds assigned to children's services; reference and reader's advisory; and coordinate and implement outreach programs particularly with the local public schools. Qualifications: M.L.S. required. Demonstrated experience in children's librarianship, demonstrated ability to work with initiative and as part of a team; excellent verbal and written communication skills; thorough knowledge of library principles and methods; ability to develop, plan and implement programs and services; excellent organizational skills; and working knowledge of the Internet and computers. Full-time. 35 hours a week. $44,681 to $52,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Some Saturdays and evenings required.
