Assistant Children's Services Librarian - Bristol Public Library

Assistant Children's Services Librarian - Bristol Public Library. Creates, implements and presents programs for children 0-12 years of age and child related programs for parents, caregivers and teachers. Assists parents, children and teachers in the selection of materials. Plans and conducts story hours, class visits, Summer Reading Program and other special programs for children to encourage reading, viewing and listening of library materials in an effort to create lifelong readers. Performs reference and reader's advisory in person, by telephone and via email, using a variety of formats. Provides service to the community and schools through programming, teacher collection services and other library services. Prepares and plans bulletin boards and book displays. Records appropriate statistics. Attends staff meetings, workshops and professional meetings of children's librarians. Evaluates reviews in professional journals and recommends purchase of materials. Recommends books for withdrawal. Evaluates the collection for currency and accuracy. QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Library Science and course work in children's literature and child psychology OR Bachelor's Degree in education, child psychology or closely related field with one (1) year experience in library work. Requires excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, intermediate level computer skills in MS Office Suite and design software. Requires knowledge of children's literature and reading interests and the ability to relate to children from preschool to middle school and their parents, teachers and caregivers. Artistic and creative talents necessary. SALARY: $17.05/hr. Generous benefits.
