Librarian - The Fairfield Museum and History Center in Fairfield, CT seeks an energetic and innovative librarian to lead the formation of a new research and special collection library. An initiative of the Fairfield Historical Society, the Fairfield Museum and History Center is a new 13,000 square foot museum, library and community education facility on Fairfield's historic Town Green that will open in September 2007. The librarian will guide the development of this important historical and genealogical library based on the century's-old collection of the Fairfield Historical Society. The 11,000-plus-volume library is recognized as one of the most outstanding historical repositories in the state, and includes rich collections of 18th and 19th century journals and manuscripts, rare books, architectural drawings, photographs, and genealogical resources. The librarian will be responsible for the administration, care, and management of all library collections of the Fairfield Museum and History Center and the oversight of public access to those collections. Job activities include cataloging resources and developing strategies for expanding public access to library collections, managing archival storage and working with staff to develop and implement student programs that encourage broad use of library resources. The librarian will also participate in collaborative initiatives with other local and regional libraries and will coordinate the application of new library information technologies that improve public access to the collection. Job Requirements: Masters degree from an accredited library program, experience or coursework in developing library based public programs, an outgoing personality and a willingness to work with users of all ages. Experience or coursework in historical and genealogical collections management, along with coursework in archival administration, and knowledge of current archival and information technology standards is desirable. Experience with database management is a plus. Ability to reach out and work with all levels of users and staff. Ability to set priorities, and work independently and collaboratively. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. This is a full-time, senior management position. Salary $47,000 with health and other benefits package. EOE.
