Legislative Aide - Connecticut State Library

Legislative Aide - The Bill Room at Connecticut State Library, 231 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106. START DATE: January 3, 2007. SALARY: $71.86/day; $8.98/hour (subject to a slight increase). HOURS: M-F, 8-5 (negotiable - can accommodate class schedules and/or a part-time schedule). DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Learn the legislative process by working with highly skilled government professionals. The Bill Room at Connecticut State Library is part of the Law & Legislative Reference Department, which is the principal law library in the state system. We are located in the Supreme Court Building across the street from the State Capitol. We provide legal and legislative reference service to the Bench and the Bar, to State Agencies, students and faculty, and to the general public. The Legislative Aide visits legislative and gubernatorial offices on a daily basis to acquire timely legislative documents. Information from these are used in conjunction with data from "CGALites", the CT General Assembly's intranet, to track bills through the legislative process under direct supervision of Bill Room staff. Exposure to the legislative process can be arranged by scheduling visits to witness public hearings associated with particular legislation that is being passed. Organizes and distributes legislative documents to internal customers and members of the public. Creates and maintains a permanent archive of 2007 legislative documents and at times assists with archiving previous session bill file material. Paginates official documents and performs other duties as required. The Legislative Aide reports to the Bill Room Supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: Extreme attention to detail, strong organizational skills, ability to interact with a broad spectrum of the public and to work with legislative, gubernatorial and judicial employees in a mature and professional manner. Comfort searching computer databases. Knowledge of or interest in learning the legislative process. Ability to work with a sense of urgency. END DATE: June 6, 2007.
