Dean of Libraries & University Librarian

Fairfield University is seeking a visionary leader and educator to serve as Dean of Libraries and University Librarian. This position represents an outstanding opportunity to build a segment of the University that continues to be transformative in terms of technology, research, knowledge management and academic support. The Dean of Libraries and University Librarian reports directly to the Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. Fairfield University is a nationally ranked, comprehensive Catholic and Jesuit University with a 210-acre campus located in the shoreline community of Fairfield, CT along the academic corridor between New York and Boston.  The University is comprised of approximately 3,500 undergraduate and 1,200 graduate students pursuing degrees within five schools: The College of Arts and Sciences, The Charles F. Dolan School of Business, The School of Engineering, The School of Nursing, and The Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions. All schools of the university are committed to a liberal humanistic approach to education, encouraging interdisciplinary learning and fostering ethical and religious values. The DiMenna-Nyselius Library serves the Fairfield University community as the primary source for research and knowledge creation through its collections, research and user services, innovative and up-to-date technology, and stunning physical facilities. Students rate it highly in the annual College Senior Survey and the Library averages approximately 300,000 visitors annually. The successful candidate will possess five to ten years of progressive leadership experience in library operations including teaching, learning and research utilizing digital and print media, in a public or private institutional setting; possess graduate degrees in library science and a second masters in an appropriate field. A doctoral degree is preferred as the University Librarian is a member of the General Faculty.
