Berlin-Peck Memorial Library is seeking new substitutes for our Adult Services and Children's Department desks. Candidates with an MLS/MLIS (or who are working toward one) may be eligible to train and work at both desks. Hours vary — days, evenings, and Saturdays — and are sometimes needed on short notice.

Responsibilities include reader's advisory and reference help for children, teens, and families; answering the phone; and assisting with department programs. Strong knowledge of children's and YA literature, excellent communication skills, and a genuine ease with kids are essential.
Job Requirements & Pay:
- $26.50/hour — MLS/MLIS (or pursuing one), or a Bachelor's + substantial experience working with children in a library setting
- $18.50/hour — Bachelor's + experience working with children outside a library setting (school, camp, daycare, youth programs, etc.)
Adult Services/Reference Substitute
Become a part of our supportive, collaborative Adult Services team by providing vital support while regular staff are presenting programs or away from the library. Candidates should have excellent customer service skills and be able to provide reader's advisory, reference services, and technology troubleshooting on phones and computers, along with assisting patrons with copying, printing, and general questions about library services and programs.
