Curatorial Intern (Volunteer 6-10 hrs/week) – Salmon Brook Historical Society, Granby

Weekly Hours: Temporary position June 16th - September 29th, up to 6-10 hours weekly (Tuesday, Thursdays and some Sundays 9-12pm).

The Salmon Brook Historical Society invites all qualified individuals to apply to its part time volunteer Curatorial Internship in order to aid the society in preserving and promoting the history of Granby, CT. All qualified applicants will be considered for volunteering without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Must have the ability to work in a variety of environments, be a strong communicator both oral and in writing and have a prior history working in a museum or library setting. Priority given to current or prior Granby residents.

Qualifications: Pursuing or have achieved a Bachelor's or Master’s degree art history, curation, or archives management. Experience with art handling desirable; demonstrated computer skills; organizational abilities; must have valid driver’s license, physical dexterity and visual acuity. Experience with Google Workspace and PastPerfect preferred.

Example of Duties:

  • Works with the Curator to exhibit and display both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
  • Inventories Aaron Draper Shattuck permanent collection and aids Curator in conducting interviews and writing docent materials for subsequent Aaron Draper Shattuck Tours.
  • Helps curator to accession physical object media using card catalog.
  • Research provenance, artists or makers, cultural significance, and comparable works in other collections, in addition to compiling object files, and drafting label text for exhibitions.
  • Participate in preservation and related activities to ensure access to Granby’s historical materials.
  • Participate as a docent for Aaron Draper Shattuck Tours Sunday July 12th, August 16th, and September 13th.
