Librarian III: Library Services Manager, Youth & Community Services - Meriden Public Library

Full Time - 40 Hours - Including Weekends and Evenings

The Meriden Public Library is seeking a Library Services Manager for the Youth and Community Services departments. The ideal candidate for this position will cultivate and foster a team environment that encourages creative thinking, collaboration, and communication, has a passion for working in a diverse community, and has a vision for bringing equitable and innovative services and programs to the Library for youth from ages birth to 18 and their families.

Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Library Director, this position oversees the Youth Services and Community Services Departments. The core responsibilities include the supervision of a team of full-time youth librarians and clerks that manage service desks, programming, collection development, and services for infants, children, teens, and caregivers, including bookmobile outreach. Has knowledge of the needs and abilities of children and teens related to learning, literacy, social skills, and brain development and their role in providing exemplary Library service. Aids in the development of short and long-term goals for the Community Services Department that manages meeting rooms, adult programming, community projects, and the Library’s state-of-the-art Digital Media Lab. Builds and maintains collaborative partnerships with Meriden Public Schools, City Departments, and organizations across the City of Meriden. As a member of the supervisory team, articulates, creates, supports, and implements the mission, goals, and policies of the Library. In addition, may represent the Library on city, community, or regional committees or as a liaison between the Library and other civic organizations.

Required Qualifications: Considerable professional experience in library work including some supervisory experience; and graduation from a recognized college or university, supplemented by graduate level study leading to the Masters of Library Science Degree or Masters of Library Information Sciences Degree.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited school, plus three years of increasingly responsible professional library work, and at least one year of supervisory experience.

Salary: Ranges from $33.24 - $41.80 per hour with a full benefits package.
