Children's Services Librarian – Derby Neck Library

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends

Compensation: Salary starting at $52k commensurate with experience; employee benefits package consisting of health, dental, and vision insurance; Simple IRA retirement plan with employer-matching contributions up to 3%; vacation, sick, and personal leave; and tuition reimbursement.

DESCRIPTION: Derby Neck Library is seeking a friendly, motivated Children's Librarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with children (ages birth to 12), creating engaging programs for a diverse audience of young readers and learners, and collaborating with a vibrant team of librarians from other departments in our small but mighty organization. We are specifically interested in candidates with excellent communication and customer service skills; a highly developed understanding of current and emerging trends, technologies, and materials in the field of youth librarianship; a creative and proactive approach to problem-solving; and a stalwart commitment to building a diverse and inclusive environment for patrons and colleagues alike.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with a passionate team of librarians and community partners in an already well-established and popular youth services program. With a strong emphasis on imagination, literacy, and hands-on learning, our Children's Room and programming offer a dynamic environment where staff can make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners and their families. As we explore strategies to maintain and even elevate this momentum, you'll have the chance to bring your unique ideas to the table and contribute to our growth.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution. A passion for working with youth of all ages. A strong background in computers/technology and non-print material formats. Patience, tact, and excellent communication skills. Maintains a cooperative and collaborative team spirit.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience creating and conducting a variety of lively programs for children and/or serving youth and fostering community engagement with children. Knowledge of library best practices and experience working in public libraries, especially in a supervisory role. Bilingual language skills desirable.

ABILITIES: Ability to continuously bend, twist, stoop, reach, and pull. Ability to keep composure in everyday, potentially stressful situations. Ability to meet a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends. Lifting of moderate to heavy weight material up to 30lbs.
