Applications are being accepted for the position of a Part-time Children's Library Specialist. We are looking for a candidate who is creative, innovative, energetic and customer-service-minded. The successful candidate should love working with children, find joy in Storytime, have great attention to detail, be familiar with child cognitive development, and be ready to help with outreach to preschools, daycares, and schools. Ideally the candidate can demonstrate a current knowledge of children's and young adult literature and programming.
Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for the development and implementation of children’s, teens and family programs and special events. They may need to update the children’s section of the Library website and/or contribute to Library social media as assigned. This candidate will also provide circulation assistance to patrons and perform technical and clerical work related to library services. This part-time position is 17-22 hours a week and includes evening and weekend hours. It may include changes to the established work schedule as required. Preferred candidates will be flexible, and able to fill in for other staff as necessary.
Required Qualifications: The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with an Associate’s Degree in Library Science, and three (3) years of experience in an educational institution or library; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Prior experience working in children’s library programming, childcare, child development, pre-school or elementary education is desirable.
