The Welles-Turner Memorial Library is seeking a creative, innovative, and motivated team member to be our new full-time MakerSpace Coordinator/Instructor to oversee our brand-new MakerSpace facility and program. Our ideal candidate will help us to achieve our mission of providing a vibrant hub for learning, exploration, and community connection in the MakerSpace (2CF Studio) through their passion for learning and teaching new technology to patrons of all ages, by building community connections both in and out of the Library, and by helping new users discover the value of their Public Library. Under the supervision of the Library Director, this person will be responsible for all aspects of the Library’s MakerSpace, including programming, marketing, scheduling, equipment, supplies, volunteers, and more (see the job description for the full scope). As this is a new position to the Library, the person will have the opportunity to help shape the program to fit the needs of Glastonbury. The MakerSpace Coordinator will be an integral part of our Library team, collaborating with library staff to inspire and serve our diverse community. The Welles-Turner Memorial Library serves the Town of Glastonbury, CT, a community of about 35,000 residents, as well as a number of visitors from the surrounding area. The newly renovated building was re-opened in 2022, with the MakerSpace a much-anticipated addition to the space. Programs and materials in the MakerSpace are supported by our Town budget, our Friends of the Library, and the Second Century Fund. In addition, WTML received a $20k grant to help fund the MakerSpace in 2024, providing additional equipment and supplies to launch the program.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Engineering, Computer Science, Education, Library), Master’s degree preferred; minimum three (3) years professional experience. Strong customer service and computer hardware/software skills, ability to work as part of a team, verbal and written communication skills. Comfort with teaching and/or overseeing groups, implementing safety procedures, and developing program plans are essential.
Salary: This is a 37.5 hours per week position, with at least one evening a week, and Saturday shifts on rotation. Salary range is $31.89 - $39.86/hour, depending on qualifications and experience, with a comprehensive town benefits package.
