Assistant Director of Library Services - Groton Public Library

POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the general direction of the Director of Library Services, the Assistant Director is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, and coordination of the operations and services of the Groton Public Library, a department of the Town of Groton. The position assists with the design and maintenance of operating plans to meet the Library’s strategic goals, providing proactive recommendations for planning and action. It also coordinates the implementation of new services, and prepares portions of the annual operating budget, managing the budget throughout the fiscal year. Provides reporting and data as needed. Interacts with community partners and stakeholders, including occasional after-hours meetings.

The Assistant Director leads and manages the team, while driving and sustaining the culture of the department and is accountable for ensuring that equal opportunity, diversity, equity and inclusion are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility. This role determines, creates, and manages work procedures, schedules and workflows. Ensures implementation to, and provides guidance in relation to, department and Town wide standards and procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The skills and knowledge would be acquired with a Master's Degree in Library Science and five (5) years of progressively responsible library work. A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience is preferred. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational, administrative, and coordination skills are essential. The ability to successfully manage full and part time employees, motivate staff, and to engender a team approach are crucial. Ability to exercise mature judgment, make responsible decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures, and meet deadlines. Must be proficient with administrative software and Microsoft Office. A strong knowledge of the current operating procedures, principles, and policies of libraries is required, as is knowledge of current library trends and experience in the implementation of developing technologies.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Salary range $90,144 - $126,202 with excellent benefits. This is a non-union, exempt, full-time position.
