Head of Adult Services and Community Engagement (Librarian III) – New Britain Public Library

Reports to: Library Director
Starting Salary: $35.00 per hour or higher depending on experience and qualifications
Schedule: Full-time position (37.5 hours per week), including at least one evening per week and alternate Fridays and Saturdays.

Position Summary: The responsibilities of the Department Head of Adult Services and Community Engagement are centered around an awareness of the future of the modern public library as dependent on its human connections in the community.

Minimum Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited school of library/information science; excellent oral and written communications skills, two years of managerial experience (preferably in a public library environment), and documented experience with community partnership building.

Knowledge, Skill & Ability:
• Must be able to employ a visionary and community focused approach to librarianship and is able to initiate and thoroughly evaluate projects and experiments that expand the current understanding of public library services.
• Must have the ability to make independent judgments, and to counsel and mentor others.
• Comprehensive knowledge of adult collections and services.
• Proficiency in current and emerging technologies is essential. Knowledge of Sierra/Encore preferred.
• Proficiency in Spanish, or other language prevalent in New Britain is welcomed.
