Assistant / Associate Director for Internal Operations - East Lyme Public Library


The East Lyme Public Library seeks a full-time Assistant or Associate Director for Internal Operations. We seek an innovative leader with team building skills, successful staff supervisory experience, exceptional interpersonal skills and managerial experience, preferably in a public library setting. Great opportunity for enthusiastic mid-career professional public librarian looking to move up, or seasoned public library administrator looking for a new challenge. The library is poised to begin a renovation or expansion project within the next few years. Responsibilities: This position reports to the Director, supervises and supports all other library staff, arranges adult programming for the library, coordinates newsletter publication 3 times a year, selects some non-fiction books for the adult collection, is responsible for the oversight of the library’s volunteer program, and develops rapport with library patrons. Successful candidate must be able to articulate the purpose of the public library to a wide variety of constituents, have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and act in place of the director in the director’s absence.

Qualifications: Masters of Library Science (MLS) strongly preferred, but will consider equivalent degree with related experience. 3 - 5 years of experience in administration or management in a library, non-profit, or other cultural institution, as well as supervisory experience also strongly preferred.

Salary and benefits: This is a full time position (35 hours per week) with some evenings required, as well as weekend days in rotation. Starting salary range of $70,000-77,000 commensurate with experience, qualifications, and ability to fit the job description. East Lyme is a charming sea side community with multiple beaches, a boardwalk, close to both Boston and New York City, and has a highly functioning, bipartisan library board and town government.
