Position Summary: Assumes responsibility for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the University Libraries to create and sustain a library system responsive to a diverse academic community, emphasizing student-focused learning and exploration and the effective delivery of core library functions, collections management and services to the University community and patrons. Performs all duties in full support of the University's mission, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University's students.

• Provides leadership
and strategic direction for the University Libraries, creating and
cultivating a flexible and innovative learning environment designed to
meet the changing needs of the University community. Establishes,
implements and oversees short- and long-range goals designed to support
the growth and delivery of core library functions as well as collections
necessary to meet the full range of curricular and research needs of
the University community. Monitors the progress towards established
goals.
• Establishes, cultivates and maintains effective working
relationships with various internal and external constituents, working
collaboratively to identify and cultivate external relations,
grant-writing, and fundraising opportunities with public and private
sectors in support of the University and the University Libraries.

Establishes peformance standards and initiatives to stay abreast of
policies, trends and developments relevant to the evolving academic
library of the 21st Century. Recruits, supports and supervises a
diverse, skilled University Libraries staff.
• Assumes responsibility
for the prudent fiscal management of the Libraries collections as well
as related resource and operational budgets. Provides strategic
oversight in all collection development activities and monitors
contracts for Libraries resources and services.
• Consistently
evaluates and incorporates evolving information technologies solutions
and library information resources and services, working collaboratively
with faculty and librarians to build and sustain effective information
literacy programs. Collaborates with faculty to incorporate the
principles of information literacy and assessment into the curriculum.

Manages and oversees community outreach initiatives on campus, in the
greater Hartford area, and beyond that are relevant to the libraries'
mission. Explores and executes new opportunities to connect communities
and facilitate collaboration and life-long learning.
• Advances
engagement, service and outreach for students faculty and staff.
Provides guidance on student and faculty research and educational needs.
•
Represents University Libraries both on campus as well as on regional
and national library boards, committees and consorti. Fosters
collaboration to increase the visibility of both the University and the
University Libraries, including active participation in University
governance groups.

Requirements: Master's Degree of Library Science from an A.L.A accredited institution required.
