Reports to: Library Director
Starting Salary: $68,250
Schedule: Full-time position (37.5 hours per week), including at least one evening per week and alternate Fridays and Saturdays.
Position Summary: The Department Head of Adult Services is responsible for the total management and operation of all aspects of the largest library department and its integration into the overall operations of the library.
Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited school of library/information science; excellent oral and written communications skills, five years progressively more responsible relevant experience, including at least three years of supervising staff. Must have the ability to make independent judgments, and to counsel and mentor others. Comprehensive knowledge of adult collections and services. Leads staff in providing services which meet the community’s needs. Guides the staff in special projects of community interest. Proficiency in current and emerging technologies is essential. Knowledge of Sierra/Encore preferred. Proficiency in Spanish, or other language prevalent in New Britain is welcomed.
Responsibilities: Supervises departmental staff. Manages all aspects of collection development, programming, services, and social media. Develops, documents, and implements long- and short-term goals for the department. Prepares reports and statistical analyses, makes presentations to the Director, community organizations and others as required. Cultivates community connections and outreach. Serves on the Director’s Management Team to plan and coordinate library-wide projects and programs, share information, and participate in strategic planning. Represents the library in New Britain and to the professional community.
