Circulation Coordinator - Westport Library

REPORTS TO: Patron Services Manager

Under the supervision of the Patron Services Manager, perform standard Patron Services duties, and supports manager in execution of duties and projects.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Uses ILS (POLARIS) efficiently for all patron transactions. Implements Patron Services opening and closing procedures. Manages cash and credit cards at service points in accordance with library policies and procedures. Assures confidentiality of patron records. Provides readers’ advisory support. Answers information questions both face to face and over the phone and assists patrons with resolving concerns and makes appropriate referrals to reference or other staff. Supports supervisor to ensure Adult Shelvers are fully trained and identifies areas for improvement. Prepares & distributes weekly Adult Shelvers schedules and ensures adequate coverage. Coordinates with colleagues to identify areas for improvements regarding accessibility of the collection and display opportunities. Assists Materials Management Department in processing and deaccessioning library materials. Supports supervisor coordinate daily schedules. Working with Facilities Coordinator and Supervisor helps with preparation for large scale events and may be required to be present for event. Responsible for ordering supplies for Patron Experience department. Monitors accounts sent to Collection. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRES: At least 3 years in a busy library circulation department or equivalent extensive customer service experience. Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed including weekends and evenings. Avid reader and/or movie buff. Comfortable with technology. Ability to provide engaging descriptions of materials in collection. Ability to serve the public with friendliness, tact, and diplomacy. Requires initiative, problem solving ability and analytical skills. Excellent verbal communications skills. Highly flexible, patient. BA preferred.
