SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, and
supervises the branch library; including the acquisition and circulation
of library materials; business and maintenance operations of branch
library; and performs general library work. Plans work according to
standard policies and procedures, and the needs of the community.
Establishes priorities. Supervises professional, para-professional,
clerical, maintenance and security staff, and volunteers; recommends the
employment, promotion or discipline of employees; prepares training and
development programs for staff; assigns work to staff, and prepares
weekly staff schedules. Supervises all aspects of circulation,
reference, interlibrary loan, reader’s advisory and programming.
Receives recommendations for purchase of materials and coordinates
selection of books, periodicals, audio-visual and other library
materials with the Library Director. Monitors branch materials budget.
Develops and maintains library collections through the purchase of
materials pertinent to the community’s informational, educational and
recreational needs and through the removal of outdated or damaged
materials. Periodically coordinates the reclassification and
re-cataloging of library materials. Supervises the administrative
detail work of the library branch business matters including overseeing
and balancing receipts of branch monies. Provides professional library
assistance to members of the public. Plans and executes library
services, programs and projects relating to adult users. Assists in
near-term and long-range planning for library development. Recommends
policy changes. Prepares statistical and narrative reports of some
complexity, and reports goals achieved. Attends Library Board meetings
as required. Participates in professional library organizations.
Speaks to civic, cultural, and other public groups to promote interest
in the library. May participate in the development of grant
applications, implementation, oversight and evaluation of grant funded
programs.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in
Library Science, 4 years of progressively responsible public library
experience, including 2 years as supervisor of a Library division.
Ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate effective library
programs and services. Strong written and oral communication skills;
work effectively with the public and staff, and possess exceptional
organizational skills. Experience in adult and children’s collection
development. A general working knowledge of computer networks, software
and hardware, and databases used in public library operations.
CLASSIFICATION/SCHEDULE: Full-time
position, working 37 ½ hours per week. Schedule: 3 days a week from
8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and 2 days a week from 12:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
September through June - work alternate Fridays and Saturdays. During
July and August - the library is closed on Saturdays; the work week is
Monday through Friday.

SALARY: $ 62,833/yr. and up to $83,070/yr. (contingent on experience).
