Middletown is a vibrant, growing and diverse community of 47,000 residents, located on the Connecticut River in the heart of the Nutmeg State. Home to two colleges and universities, a thriving downtown, a rich cultural and dining scene, and a unique combination of urban, suburban and rural life, Middletown has something to offer everyone. Founded in 1875, the Russell Library is a 501(c)(3) organization that serves as the principal public library for the City of Middletown, with a full range of services aimed at 21st-century users. Our strategic plan sets our course for success in the coming years.
The Library Assistant uses technology to serve people of all ages and from all walks of life. Adept at navigating our integrated library system, online catalog, public events calendar, self-service kiosks, downloadable/streaming platforms, and scheduling software, the Library Assistant makes it easy for borrowers to make the most of their library card. The incumbent delivers patron service everywhere within the library, as well as remotely over the phone, via email, and through new communication technologies as they emerge. An ideal candidate will be skilled at talking individuals through multi-step instructions in the set up and use of a wide range of applications, including but not exclusively library-specific resources such as Libby, Hoopla, and online databases. The incumbent must be nimble in adopting technologies and teaching others how to use them even as they learn it themselves.
Attitude is everything when it comes
to exceptional customer service. The successful candidate will be
pleasant, friendly, positive, resilient, competent and constructive. The
incumbent must possess strong technology skills and the ability to
translate their tech savvy for lay understanding while employing grace
and patience in working with people who endeavor to improve their tech
skills.
The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired
with some college education and working or internship experience in a
library or other intensive customer-service environment. 8-16 hours per
week; evenings and weekends required.
Starting pay: $25.72 per hour. Apply no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023 at THIS LINK.
