The South Windsor Public Library is a grant agency of the Town of South Windsor. The six-member Library Board of Directors is appointed by the Town Council and serves as a governing board, responsible for hiring the Library Director, determining Library policies, and exercising fiscal control of the Library budget.
The Library’s operating budget of $1,277,652 supports a staff of twelve full-time and twenty part-time employees and library services for a population just under 27,000 six miles east of the State’s capital city. Employee benefits and building maintenance expenses are part of the Town’s General Government budget. The library building was first constructed in 1979 and doubled in size to 32,000 square feet in 1997; several major updating projects since then have characterized the Town’s commitment to properly maintaining municipal facilities.
South Windsor’s population is growing, drawn by business opportunities and an excellent school system; the fall 2023 will mark the successful completion of a ten-year plan to replace four elementary schools following expansion and updates to the middle school and high school buildings. An active Senior Center and enthusiastically supported leisure programs for all ages will focus attention on development of expanded Recreation Department facilities in the near future.
Projected start date: July 17, 2023. Schedule will include some evenings and weekends; attendance is also expected at evening meetings of various Town Boards, Commissions, and community organizations as appropriate.
Current Salary Range: $77,658 - $124,466. Starting salary negotiable depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Municipal management benefit package, including health, dental, and life insurance, retirement savings plan, disability, EAP. Vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, and other benefits are determined by the Library Board.
