THE ROLE: This is a specialized professional position responsible for providing leadership, education and technical assistance in the areas of data assessment, research, evaluation, and statistics to public libraries, specifically the use of data to drive advocacy, policy and planning. Other duties include performing complex professional duties in the delivery of library, information and consultant services on a statewide basis. Consultants provide liaison services to assigned regional areas of CT libraries.
The successful candidate will: Provide leadership to libraries in carrying out statewide and local federal programs. Serve as a technical specialist for the development, coordination, and execution of needs assessment for purposes of strategic planning, research and evaluation of library programs and services, and statistics programs to support public libraries. Contribute to the development and implementation of the Division of Library Development Libguides and other digital communication tools. Partner with state, regional and national data collection organizations to identify data trends and methodologies to liberate, analyze, process and visualize data for greatest impact.
Candidates should have considerable knowledge of: Collecting, verifying and analyzing data through a public library annual survey and other data collection instruments to be submitted to the federal government. Ability to create, write and publish statistical reports and analyses in physical and digital format. Ability to evaluate and implement sophisticated data collection tools in an online environment. Administering a complex construction grant program; knowledge of library construction and design.
ABOUT US: The mission of the CSL is to preserve and make accessible Connecticut’s history and heritage and to advance the development of library services statewide. The CSL is an Executive Branch agency of the State of Connecticut. We provide a variety of library, information, archival, public records, museum, and administrative services for citizens of Connecticut, as well as for the employees and officials of all three branches of State government. The State Library also serves students, researchers, public libraries and town governments throughout the state. In addition, the State Library directs a program of statewide library development and administers the Library Services and Technology Act state grant.
Salary: $85,957 - $110,549 (Employees new to state service start at the minimum)
