Library Assistant – Northwestern CT Community College, Winsted

  • Level: Community College Professional 12, 12-month, tenure track position.
  • Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Position Summary: The Library Assistant performs support services in one or more library functions in the library or learning resource center of a Community College which provides library services to students, faculty, staff and citizens. These functions may include: circulation; periodicals processing; acquisitions processing; interlibrary loans; reserves; on-line copy cataloging; basic reference and readers’ advisory; and audio-visual equipment lending.

The position provides services to assist the library in its support of the College’s learning and instructional goals. The position may be required to provide coverage for the library at designated times in the absence of more senior positions.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student body. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).

Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in Library Technical Science or a subject area related to library services in the academic field with up to two (2) years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties. Experience with Librarianship functional areas. Experience with library patrons.

Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of experience working in a library setting. Library experience working in an academic library. Experience providing circulation and technical services support in a library. Experience providing inter-library loan services support in a library.

Starting Salary: Anticipated Salary; $45,785 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
