Tech Guide, PT - Town of Clinton, CT

Clinton Human Services, in collaboration with the Henry Carter Hull Library, is launching a pilot program to meet the technology needs of the community. We seek a part-time contractual Tech Guide to work with community members and other partner organizations to improve residents’ digital literacy through technological assistance and education.

Job Overview: The Tech Guide will provide technology skills training to community members aged 10 and up, with a special emphasis on senior citizens needing introductory digital skills. This training will be provided primarily at the HCH Library; however, in order to provide equitable access for residents who are homebound or have limited mobility, some off-site outreach is required as well.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. The successful candidate will design and teach a repeating technology workshop series at the Library. Proposed workshop topics to include: 1. General internet searching and safety. 2. Emails: attachments, forwarding, printing. 3. Photos: downloading, uploading, printing and sharing. 4. Social media basics. 5. Video calling with Zoom, FaceTime, Skype. 6. Doing your finances online. The workshop series will run several times a year in both English and Spanish.
  2. The Tech Guide will spend 10 hours a week at the Library assisting residents with various tech issues. Such assistance may include seing up email and social media accounts, using search engines and job search tools, photo sharing, and printing. Hours to be set at staffer’s convenience, but must be consistent throughout the year and align with Library hours.
  3. The Tech Guide will perform publicity and outreach in the community (via Meals on Wheels, congregate dining, the Estuary, the Senior Connection, UR Community Cares) to promote the above three programs. They will work with residents, as well as Library and Town staff, to assess and reassess needs to determine if target outcomes are being met.

Required: Very strong technology skills. Customer service experience. Experience working with older adults. Associates’ Degree or higher.

Preferred: Teaching experience. Bilingual in Spanish.

Terms: Contractual Service provider will average 12 hours a week for 48 weeks per year. Pay is $30 an hour. No fringe benefits, no taxes withheld. Contract to run for 7 months and may be renewable.
