Programming Librarian I - New Britain Public Library, CT

Reports To: Head of Adult Services
Starting Salary: $50,896.71
Schedule: Full-time position (37.5 hrs/wk) available that includes at least one evening per week and alternate Fridays & Saturdays.

Qualifications: A Masters in Library Science from an ALA accredited program. Experience or knowledge of information services and e-resources, readers advisory, library programming and community outreach. Strong background in technology with competency in MS Windows, Office, Apple, as well as social media applications. Knowledge of library makerspaces and equipment. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, strong commitment to customer service. Ability to work in a diverse public environment. Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and positive work attitude; able to plan and coordinate with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva. Knowledge of Sierra ILS, EBSCO, ProQuest, Overdrive, Ancestry and Hoopla. Spanish, Polish or other prevalent language proficiency desirable. Motivation to learn and teach others. Experience creating social media and promotional design content. Ability to establish effective working relationships with community organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities: Collection development and maintenance of adult library materials and media. Performs reference and reader advisory services. Under the supervision of the Head of Adult Services, is responsible for developing, publicizing, teaching and hosting adult programs and technology courses. Collaborates with makerspace staff, designing unique adult programs and workshops. Works with local organizations and attends community events to bring library services into the community. Interfaces with other departments to assure communication and parallel marketing efforts library-wide. Participates in library planning, including recommending improvements and developing new types of programming and patron services. Tracks programming budget and gathers statistical data for monthly reports. Participate in professional development opportunities through professional organizations, conferences, meetings, workshops, and continuing education opportunities. Additional duties include department coverage at various service points. Other duties as assigned.
