Library Assistant – Andrew Mellon Library, Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford, CT

The Andrew Mellon Library at Choate Rosemary Hall has an opening for a Library Assistant to cover a leave for the Spring and Summer terms (March-August). The Library Assistant’s primary role is to assist students, teachers, and other library users with their library needs. This role will support Librarians in all aspects of library operations, including supervision of ASK US desk, various clerical and administrative duties, and assist with classes and/or programed instruction.

This role can be part-time or full-time hours with a schedule that includes evenings and Sundays.

Responsibilities: Open or close the library according to procedures. Participates in the duty rotation at the service desk. Provides exemplary customer service. Assists students and patrons in locating and using materials and online resources. Maintains the library collection; includes shelving and shifting books, adding/withdrawing books, mending and repairing books, and assisting with inventory. Maintains a clean, orderly, and attractive library environment. Circulates library materials; checking materials in and out, sending overdue announcements, and maintain overdue records. Monitors students, handles discipline problems, and responds to patrons needs. Participates in library projects, such as weeding and stack maintenance. Assists Librarians with the promotion and display of new resources. Provides basic troubleshooting for technology resources in the library. Assist with photocopying, scanning, printing, uploading data.

Requirements: Associate degree or some college courses completed. 2 years preferred experience working in a school library or youth library setting.
