Derby Neck Library is a welcoming destination that offers traditional service plus a variety of programs for all ages. Use of the facility returned to near pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2022. Children’s, Teen, and Adult programming is strong and diverse, attracting many patrons from the surrounding communities. The Head Librarian is expected to collaborate with local schools and community partners as well as be active in the local nonprofit network. The position supervises a staff of three full-time and eight part-time employees. The Library is a member of Bibliomation, Inc.
The position requires the following qualifications: Master of Library Science degree from an accredited university; 2-3 years of library admin and supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. High energy, creativity, and innovation are expected, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, a hands-on work ethic, a strong knowledge of emerging technologies, and a comprehensive understanding of books, media, and other library materials of interest to the general public. The candidate should have experience in developing and managing organizational budgets, as well as designing new programming. The Library is a collaborative workplace, and a candidate should possess strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
