Fairfield University’s
DiMenna-Nyselius Library is seeking a part-time Access Services
Specialist to join our team. An ideal candidate has experience working
with college-aged students and is committed to excellent patron services
in a supportive and collaborative work environment.
BASIC
FUNCTIONS: Supports a variety of Access Services and clerical
procedures. Assists library patrons in the use of library materials,
facilities, and equipment. Supervises and trains student employees.
Manages Access Services operations in absence of Access Services
Supervisor or Access Services & Reserves Specialist.
UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Physical requirements: mobility; must be able to lift materials off shelf. Position entails evening and weekend hours, approximately 10 hours a week.
EDUCATION: Associate degree or equivalent required. LTA certificate is preferred.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE: One-year previous library or related experience.
Demonstrated computer literacy. Demonstrated knowledge of integrated
library systems. Supervisory and communication skills are required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1) Assists with all Access Services operations. This includes:
assisting with oversight of the Library Services and Information desk,
explaining and interpreting circulation policies to patrons, assessing
and resolving problems and referring to other staff as appropriate, and
answering routine inquiries and referring patrons in need of
professional assistance to librarians. This position will also support
and maintain access services-related tools and technologies including
the integrated library system, assisting patrons with the use of
printer, scanner, and computer hardware, and identifying books for
repair or replacement. May be called upon to cover routine Access
Services operations in absence of Access Services Supervisor or Access
Services & Reserves Specialist.
2) Assists with building
access and facilities management. This includes: opening and closing the
building as necessary, submitting work orders, communicating with
Access Services Supervisor regarding building issues and maintenance,
and monitoring building security as well as providing the initial
response to emergencies and issues related to building access and
security.
3) Supervises student employees. This includes:
coaching, training and mentoring student employees as appropriate,
overseeing the flow and quality of work, and assisting Access Services
Supervisor to evaluate performance.
Performs such other duties,
responsibilities, and activities as required by supervisor and as
departmental/University needs indicate.
