Beardsley
Library is seeking an archivist or research assistant to run the local
history and genealogy department. Beardsley Library serves three towns:
Winsted, Colebrook, and Barkhamsted, and has a comprehensive collection
of genealogy and local history resources covering not just these towns,
but also the surrounding towns and much of the Northwest corner.

The research assistant is responsible for maintaining and growing the
genealogy and local history collection through purchases and capturing
current events and news. A chief responsibility of this position is also
to assist patrons with their research as many people come from all over
to research their family history, the history of their house or another
building, or any other number of research inquiries. This is a
patron-facing job.
This position will also be cross trained and
will fill in on the circulation desk as needed, as well as assist with
other tasks in the library.

follows: Tuesdays 10am to 6pm, Thursdays 10am to 6pm, Fridays 10am to
6pm, and Saturdays 9:30 to 2pm, for a total of 28.5 hours per week.
Additional hours may be available if coverage is needed – additional
availability will be a plus. The pay rate is $17-$18 per hour, and the
position is eligible for personal, vacation, and sick time after one
year of employment.
Previous experience in a library, historical
society, museum, or similar setting is strongly preferred, but not
required. Training will be provided.
