This
position is a 12-month calendar year, tenure-track faculty appointment
at the Assistant Professor level with an expected start date of late
Spring/Summer 2023. The position reports to the Chair, Public Services,
and Dean of the University Libraries. Recent graduates and early-career

The University of Rhode
Island University Libraries seeks a highly motivated individual for the
position of Assistant Professor, Reference and Instruction Librarian.
The incumbent will use collaborative and innovative approaches to
fulfill the Public Services Department’s reference and instruction
mission and, eventually, take on the duties of Head of Reference.
Informed by the University and Libraries’ mission and strategic
priorities, this position will participate in the Libraries’ reference
and instruction efforts. Depending on experience, previous training, and
aptitudes, this position will take over the role of Head of Reference
immediately or over time, taking on responsibility for scheduling,
training, developing new reference models, and performing outreach
activities.
The URI Libraries are looking for candidates who are
collegial, forward-thinking, and eager to advance a service model where
library faculty and staff actively engage the University community
through direct outreach. Successful candidates will have a knowledge of
and interest in the evolving roles of research libraries in the changing
landscape of higher education.
