College is conducting a regional search for an Interlibrary Loan
Specialist. This position oversees resource sharing activities for the
College, including interlibrary loan (ILL) and other consortial loan
programs. The position processes requests, assists patrons with locating
resources, selects and supervises student employees for the ILL Office,
participates in consortial activities at all levels, and performs
ongoing assessment of products and services. Compensation includes a
robust benefit package.
General Duties & Responsibilities:
(1) Process incoming interlibrary loan lending and borrowing requests
using interlibrary loan management software, the integrated library
system, and specific ILL interfaces. Solve problems with system
functionality and workflow issues. Coordinate borrowing and lending with
consortial partners. (2) Assist patrons in placing requests, and
connect patrons with appropriate staff to resolve any library use
issues. Serve as the primary contact for faculty, staff and students
concerning the status of ILL and/or consortial requests. (3) Monitor and
manage issues related to overdue interlibrary loan materials;
communicate with interlibrary loan colleagues at partner institutions to
resolve overdue loans; and collaborate with acquisitions, circulation
and accounting as required. (4) Communicate interlibrary loan policies,
procedures and workflows to library staff members and patrons. (5) Hire,
train and supervise ILL student employees, including: creating training
strategies and office workflows; assisting in the creation and updating
of written training materials. (6) Coordinate with Access Services
staff to organize daily office participation and coverage of service
points, including the Shain Library Circulation Desk, Greer Music
Library and the ILL Office. Assist in supervision of circulation desk
student employees. (7) Collect and prepare interlibrary services data
for regular assessment activities, and participate in assessment of
products, services and consortial agreements. (8) Additional duties as
assigned or as necessary.
Qualifications: Associate’s
degree plus two years’ experience, or a comparable combination of
education and experience; prior library experience is preferred. Must
have excellent written and verbal communications skills, a strong
commitment to customer service and the ability to build and sustain key
relationships with faculty, students, other libraries and outside
vendors. Additionally, the candidate needs to have demonstrated
experience with new and emerging technologies, and demonstrated ability
to learn new systems and technological tools efficiently; ability to use
software applications, databases, standard productivity software, and
the Internet; excellent interpersonal skills; must be detail oriented;
excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities and keep
to deadlines; and have the ability to work under pressure.
