Avery Point Campus Library Director (Librarian 3 - Manager or Librarian 4 - Manager) - UConn Libraries

     Full-time, Avery Point Campus
     JOB SUMMARY: The UConn Library seeks a collaborative and people-focused leader to serve as Director of the UConn Avery Point Campus Library. The UConn Avery Point Campus Library serves UConn students, faculty, and staff advancing research, teaching, learning, and student success. The Avery Point Campus Library Director partners with UConn Library and Avery Point campus to envision, sponsor, and enact services and programming for the UConn Avery Point campus and community.
     Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Academic Engagement, the Avery Point Campus Library Director is responsible for overseeing and providing an excellent academic library experience for students and faculty. The Director supervises one full-time staff member to collectively support and advance the work of the Library. This position is ideal for an individual who thrives on establishing and maintaining strong professional relationships that interconnect multiple groups to strengthen and advance our work. The Director will work onsite to oversee the Library’s operations and to promote and represent the work of the Library.
     As an active member of the Library’s Academic Engagement area and guided by our Strategic Framework of Connect, Empower, and Engage the successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of the Library through collaboration and relationship-building and demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, professional judgment, and decision-making practices while reinforcing the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice in daily responsibilities.
     Along with all UConn Library personnel, the successful candidate will make a positive contribution to a culture of inclusion and respect in all interactions within the Library and across the University and will exemplify the UConn Library values of kindness and trust, curiosity and inquiry, equity and inclusion, and having fun.
     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for Appointment as a Librarian 3 – Manager Level: A graduate degree in library and information science from an American Library Association-accredited institution (including international equivalents) or any graduate-level degree in a field relevant to the position. Minimum of six years related professional experience. Supervisory experience of professional level staff with proven knowledge of principles and best practices of employee supervision. Must demonstrate a commitment and ability to promote inclusive management practices. Evidence of advancing teaching, programmatic, or service initiatives in support of academic teaching, learning, or research. Demonstrated ability to actively engage with stakeholder communities through outreach and networking paired with proven public service skills that build and maintain collaborations in support of campus engagement. Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice. Advanced interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Evidence of active engagement and creating significant contributions in professional activities at a statewide, regional, or national level.
     Additional Minimum Qualifications for Appointment as a Librarian 4 – Manager Level: Minimum of nine years related professional experience. Knowledge of scholarly research and communications processes at a mastery level. Evidence of leadership or creating significant contributions in professional activities at a statewide, regional, or national level.
     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS For Both Levels: Evidence of success in reinforcing and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice and working collaboratively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Interest in marine and/or maritime studies and a willingness to learn in this area.
     APPOINTMENT TERMS: This is a full-time position based on the UConn Avery Point campus in Groton, Connecticut. Salary and rank are dependent upon education, qualifications, and experience.
