Summary:
Assists patrons, both in person, via email and telephone, with reading
needs, using a wide variety of print and electronic resources. Provides
individual readers’ advisory service to library patrons. Instructs
patrons with the public access catalog and available databases.
Evaluates fiction, non-fiction, and non-print reviews in professional
journals and recommends purchase of materials and the needs of the
collection. Creates and maintains a wide variety of print materials
(i.e. bookmarks, bibliographies, book reviews, etc.). Schedules,
develops and maintains book displays. Weeds the large print collection.
Plans and conducts book discussions. Assists in the development and
promotion of an adult summer reading program; may plan and conduct other
adult programs. Performs clerical duties. Generally assists and/or
substitutes throughout the main library and its’ branches where needed.
Qualifications: Master’s
Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school with 2
years’ experience in readers’ advisory service OR a Bachelor’s Degree
with 3 years’ experience in readers’ advisory service. Must be familiar
with a variety of fiction genres and be widely read. Requires the
ability to interact positively with people of all ages, and work
independently with minimum supervision. Excellent research skills. Must
have expert knowledge of Internet software, intermediate knowledge in
word processing software, computer graphics software (such as Print
Shop); and basic knowledge of Database software and spreadsheet
software.
Type/Schedule: Full-time position,
working 37.50 hours per week. September through June, work Monday
through Thursday, and alternate Fridays and Saturdays; for the months of
July and August, work Monday through Friday. Must be able to work
evenings and weekends.

Salary: $24.62/hourly, increase to $26.87/hr.@ 6 months, and to $27.29/hr@ 1 year.
