Description: The Library
Technician is a part-time role primarily focused on providing superior
customer service to patrons within the Library. The Library Technician
will work on an afternoon/evenings schedule on a 12 month basis up to 25
hours per week. Hours may also include some weekend shifts.
The part-time Library Technician will work as part of a team of staff to
provide Information Desk services within a cutting edge, technology
leading, Learning Commons Model of service Duties include provision of
services for students and faculty including the circulation and printing
functions and providing backup services for the media delivery
function.
The Library supports a broad range of undergraduate
and graduate programs including distance learning, accelerated adult
learner programs, Education, Acupuncture, Engineering, Physician
Assistant, Chiropractic and more. The library has quickly changing
priorities and daily tasks are not always predictable. The Library
follows the Evidence-Based approach to Information Literacy and
Reference Practice in all disciplines.
DUTIES and
RESPONSIBILITIES: Answers Questions in-person, by telephone, through
Instant Messaging, and via email. Assist students with printer. Provide
Refunds as necessary. Maintains an atmosphere conducive to learning in
the Library by enforcing Library policies. Checks material out/in
including laptops, and resolves fines and fees, communicating with
University Librarian and Access Services staff when necessary. Assist in
room reservations. Close 4th floor prior to completing shift. Keeps
library administration informed of patron issues and all off peak
activity in the library. Other work related duties as assigned by the
library administration.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma;
prefer at least one year of college and previous experience using
databases. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to
lift 30 pounds. Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office, Library
Databases and Internet searching. Strong interpersonal skills, ability
to establish good working relationships with students, including
International students. Ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and
socially diverse students, staff, faculty, and other constituencies
required. Excellent communication skills, including speaking to groups
and instruction. Demonstrated ability to work in customer service, be
flexible, and acquire new skills. Strong service orientation.
Occasional schedule changes may also be required for vacation coverage,
registration events, Orientation, or University events. Switching shifts
when unable to work is strongly encouraged.
