Howard Whittemore Memorial
Library-Naugatuck is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of
Youth Services for our newly-renovated Children's Department. This
position provides administrative oversight of the Department, including
supervising, scheduling and training staff and volunteers; developing,
implementing and evaluating innovative youth programs; conducting
outreach in the community; providing reader's advisory services;
long-range planning for children's services and the facility; and
expanding and maintaining the youth print and media collections.
The ideal candidate will be energetic and creative, with the ability
to work both independently and collaboratively; will nurture and guide
YSD staff and have a commitment to providing a welcoming, vibrant space
for all. Must possess the professionalism and diplomacy needed to
interact with children and their caregivers, colleagues,
educators/school administrators and the community at large. Ideal
candidate will have knowledge of best practices and current trends in
promoting literacy through children's collection development and
programming.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree
required, MLS preferred. Must have previous library experience and a
minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
SALARY: Salary commensurate with education
and experience; meets ALA recommended guidelines for MLS salary. Benefit
package. This is a full-time, 35 hour per week position, including
evening and weekend shifts.
