General Statement of Duties: Assists the Director with overall
department leadership and manages the Adult Services Division of the
Perrot Library. Reports to Director of Perrot Library.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree in Library Science or
Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university, plus 6
years post master’s experience in professional library work including 3
years of library experience managing and directing librarians and
professional library staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated
knowledge of procedures and practices of library operations and
administration. Proven knowledge of reference materials and ability to
evaluate the accuracy of resources presented in different formats.
Proven ability to successfully lead and supervise staff at different
levels. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology applications,
automated library systems and electronic information resources.
Demonstrated effective oral and written communications skills. Proven
ability to create and administer library programs and services within
budgetary guidelines. Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret and
explain library policies, goals and objectives to staff, community
groups, and the public. Proven ability to deal tactfully and courteously
with diverse constituencies. Demonstrated ability to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers,
subordinates, boards, committees, and library patrons.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITES: Supervises staff in the Adult Services Division.
Assumes responsibility for library operations in the absence of the
Library Director. Assists with budget preparation and is responsible for
monitoring the budget throughout the year to ensure expenditures are
within guidelines; oversees vendors. Evaluates library operations, sets
benchmarks and implements efficiencies which can be applied to staffing,
collections, materials handling or use of automated equipment or
software. Manages selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing and
deacquisition of Library materials; manages the circulation,
distribution and shelving of collections; manages reference services,
readers advisory and public programming. Participates in Library Board
meetings and serves on committees as required. Keeps current with
professional publications, as well as emerging trends relating to
information resources, operational and personnel management trends and
library-related technology developments. May perform the duties of the
lower level Librarian titles as needed. Supports Town policies and
philosophies. Performs related work as required.
