About READy for the Grade:
The Hamden Public Library, supported by a generous grant from the New
Alliance Foundation, is implementing READy for the Grade. This program
serves rising first, second, and third graders –along with their
families- who are reading below grade level. Our goal is to help Hamden
students improve their skills, catch up with their peers, and envision
greater possibilities for themselves. The program will run on Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday mornings with some family evening events, beginning
July 5 through Aug 11.
Role: You will be the
lead and implement this collaborative grant project, bringing group
tutors and volunteers together to help children and their families
strengthen their reading muscles. You will help to train and supervise
grant staff, and may assist with recruitment. Using library resources
and space, you will see that each day of the program flows as smoothly
as possible. With help from the READy for the Grade staff, you will
collect easy-CBM scores and maintain data for the grant’s annual report.
Along with Library management, you will ensure that grant monies are
spent wisely.
Requirements: Ability to lead and
manage staff. Knowledge of literacy development. Strong communication
skills. Attention to detail. Previous experience in implementing
projects for families. Comfortable with technology. Teachers, media
specialists, or professionals from related fields preferred. Bilingual
skills, English to Spanish, a plus.
This position runs the
duration of the program, July 5 through August 11, and will include some
hours of prep and post-program work. The hourly rate is $33. We hope to
begin the prep hours ASAP and can coordinate these with your schedule.
There will be a training day and family orientation day before July 5.
To apply, please submit your application and resume to Marcy Goldman,
Head of Children’s Services, mgoldman@hamdenlibrary.org by Friday, April 15.
