Library Assistant - The
Gunn Memorial Library is seeking an enthusiastic candidate for a
Library Assistant position. As the first contact with patrons, we count
on our Library Assistants to provide friendly, efficient, and accurate
library services. Successful candidates must enjoy working with the
public; be self-motivated and comfortable working with technology; have
excellent communication skills; and be able to work collaboratively with
other team members.
Responsibilities include but are not
limited to: Providing excellent customer service to patrons of all ages,
backgrounds, and abilities. Checking materials in and out. Organizing
and reshelving returned items appropriately. Issuing and updating
library cards. Assisting patrons with holds, requests, general questions
and public use equipment. Managing patron requests on the phone.
Maintaining an active awareness of current library programs and
services. Being an advocate for the library. Working on special projects
and programs as needed.

extended periods of time to view & operate computer equipment, and
to stand for extended periods of time. The employee frequently is
required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop and kneel. The employee is
frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must
occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Hours for this
position range from 15-18 hours per week, including evenings and one
rotating weekend day. Flexibility with scheduling is preferred, with an
early January start date. A Bachelor’s degree and prior library
experience is preferred.
Rate of Pay: $15-$16 hourly range, commensurate upon candidates' experience.
