Full-time Librarian - Hopkins School, an independent, gender-inclusive, college-preparatory day school in New Haven, Connecticut, with about 715 students in grades 7-12, is seeking a full-time Librarian.
     The faculty and staff at Hopkins are motivated by working with young people to instill the love of learning not only in their respective fields but also in the broader community. Hopkins strives to create and foster an equitable and inclusive learning environment that leans into diverse perspectives to create a supportive environment for all to learn. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts that develop a community where all can thrive.
     Successful candidates should: Hold a Master’s degree in Library Science. Have basic computer skills. Have the ability to learn and use a variety of library technology. Provide instruction in research and library skills to students grades 7-12, in collaboration with teachers. Cover one of two circulation desks in the library (check books in or out, answer basic questions, shelve materials, supervise students). Lead and assist with library projects (weeding, inventory, etc). Catalog new materials. Assist with material selection. Assist with programming and displays. Collaborate with other librarians. Provide reference and one-on-one research help. Provide reader’s advisory. Preferably have experience working in a library or school setting. Be responsible for library supervision one time per week until 6:00 p.m.
     Full-time faculty members typically serve as an adviser for a group of 6-8 students in one grade; attend grade-level adviser and faculty meetings; maintain verbal and written professional contact with students, colleagues, and families; serve on one faculty committee; chaperone after-school student events; and participate in the broader life of the School.
